I own a 2008 version of same model as above with ''v'' rear sight. Out of the box, on standard NRA 50'' range...pulled first shot into 6 ring, next 9 in the black. Previous reviewer stated rear sight caused ''high'' shots. Also stated shooting at 40 yards... 120 feet is an unusual range for a firearm shooting a 40 grain .22LR cartridge. I would have expected ''low'' shots before ''high'' shots. I''m curious as to the reason for shooting 120 feet, unless for hunting? mick usmc sniper

Ruger Mark III Hunter .22LR

The first thing I didn't like about this gun was the V-Notch rear sight. I went to shoot at the range and it kept shooting high. I couldn't move the rear sight anymore. I also had trouble keeping the sights on my target. I was very frustrated and did not want to shoot high. Even at 40 yards it shot high. The range officer told me not to worry and to just aim below the target. I didn't spend $500 to aim below and compensate! I got on line and found that others had the same propblem. I happen to go to my local gun shop and there was a Mark II. I picked it up and was amazed at the target aquisition, that's because the rear sight was a regular square notch. I told the gun dealer my problem and he gave me a simple solution to a big problem, just change the rear blade. So, as soon as I got home I called up Ruger and had them send me a rear blade with the square notch free of charge! Even the technician told me that he doesn't like the V-notch. I got after 2 weeks and put it in (a little tricky). Now the gun aims dead on at 40 yards. I love it!!!!

Bought it for my son''s graduation present from HS. I already had the MK II comp target slab with a bushnell holosight.I''mm 55 now and my eyes aren''t what they used to be and the holosight became a necessity to keep up with my boys. Had more fun with the family shooting this gun over the years as my sons (and wife) began to love the sport of shooting and hunting. I know theres been a lot of discussion about these sights on the MKII vs MKIII (V notch vs sq notch blade). Since focusing on things up close is almost impossible for me now (just went from 1.75 to 2.00 reading glasses) and found out these sights work really good for those of us who are able to see/forcus on the target and front sights but back sights are just a big blur. Very easy to line up a line on the back sights (a little blurry) with the fiber optic front sights, than trying to center the front sights in the squared notch back sight thats just a total blur. We''ve put a couple of 100 rounds through it and my son loves it. Has a better feel (balance/lighter front)then my MKII slab, and again, sights work for me. Has a few other differences besides sights thats nice to have (mag release button, loaded shell indicator, grips) but to me makes it in no way a sperior or vastly imporvement over the MKII''s. A little pricey..... oh yea, but I believe I said that when I bought my other Ruger MKII some twenty years ago and its been one of my most enjoyable gun investment I ever made
