I bought the 629 to accompany me when fishing in bear country. It carries fairly light and handles recoil very well, thanks to the Hogue Monogrip. It is perfect for shoulder holster carry over a pair of waders and balances very well. The unfluted cylinder is stout enough to handle the hottest, heaviest grizzly loads one would wish to feed it. The trigger is great and the gun locks up like a bank vault. From Montana to Alaska, the 629 Trail Boss is a Boonie fisherman''s perfect companion. My sole complaint is the inane internal lock that Smith and Wesson has chosen to install. It''s a revolver, folks if we keep our fingers out of the trigger guard and practice reasonable safety, we don''t need one more thing that could cause the gun to fail. Likewise, the lock won''t deter theft. If you own a gun keep it locked up.
