First of all, you need to get one before these somehow end up the new adminstration's "no-no" list of firearms we can own as freedom loving people. I originally got mine in Nov 2008 because it looks different than anything else out there and doesn't cost an arm or a leg to own or to shoot. I shot 80 rounds and only had two problems using it; they were extraction-related issues using Wolf plain steel case ammo. I attribute those faults to the ammo and not the gun. Next time at the range, I will shoot either brass cased or polmer coated steel cased ammo. Second, this gun is accurate, and in my opinion, recoil is less than a 9mm pistol. The PLR-16 is very manageable using a staggered grip - one hand on the grip and the other holding the magazine well or the polymer forend (recommend you get one for your PLR-16 unless you want to scorch your hand). You will also want at least the Kel-Tec factory flash hider, there are some others out there. Last, the cool factor. This gun just looks like it means business. If you take it to the range, be prepared to answer some questions because it is LOUD. You will find yourself surrounded quickly with folks curious about your PLR-16.

I bought this gun because I heard so many great things about it online and from associates. It was a good price. At the range, it had a lot of FTF, so I sent it in to Keltec. When I got it back (no charge, lifetime warranty), it fired flawlessly. It is accurate, very little recoil or muzzle climb, easy to shoot, and fun. The reason I purchases it was for a SHTF gun when I'm out of town. It's easy to pack away discreetly, yet provides some serious firepower if needed. VERY HAPPY WITH THIS GUN!!!

Why did I buy this? It's an intimidating looking firearm, it holds alot of ammo(using AR hicap mags), gets attention at the range, and my wife liked it(but has never fired it). Now after shooting it, personally I think its not very practical. The sights are not very good, no stock to steady your aim and seems more awkward to handle than a handgun. It would not be the first firearm I would use for home defense. A hicap handgun would be a better choice, easier to handle. A laser would be something I would consider adding if the PLR were to be a home defense weapon. Overall I would put the money towards an AR15(which I did), M-1 carbine, or Ruger Ranch rifle if its a home defense rifle your looking for. A good pump action shotgun is another consideration.
